Vons is the most common supermarket in Ventura, with ~5 locations. It has grocery store-type stuff.
They actually bake pretty good bread, but be sure to buy French bread before 4:30 PM. Since they have a corporate policy to have fresh bread at 5 PM, they usually rush it and put hot bread into the bags. This leads to soggy crust syndrome (SDS), see your bread doctor for details.
A couple of the Vons locations used to be owned by Safeway, but were sold to Vons in the late 70s/early 80s. But in the 1997, Safeway bought the entire Vons chain.
Back during the supermarket strike, this was one of the chains affected.
