The Beach is really what makes Ventura a great place to live. We may not have a fancy university, or rich celebrity mansions, but we sure have a nice stretch of sand.
All beaches in Ventura are public property. All beaches in California below the high tide line are property of the state, but the entire width length of Ventura's beaches are public parks, which means there is plenty of room out there. The largest part is San Buenaventura State Beach.
Surfing occurs pretty much anywhere, but the most popular spots are Surfer's Point and Marina Park.
The sand isn't quite what it used to be, since we've dammed most of the rivers in Southern California. But living between the Santa Clara River and Ventura River, we're doing pretty well.
