Mission San Buenaventura is the oldest structure in Ventura, founded on Easter Sunday in 1782. It's the eighth mission in the series of California Missions, and the last built under Junípero Serra. The mission was built to serve or indoctrinate the Chumash people, depending on your point of view.

It marks the origin of the city of Ventura, which grew up around the mission. It's located in Downtown Ventura, and it makes a decent tourist attraction. It's not nearly as nice as Mission Santa Barbara, which has more buildings and land. It still serves as a local parish church, where local parishoners attend mass.
