For those who want to go back to the great outdoors, there are quite a few places that you can camp around Ventura.
In Town

Ventura Beach RV Resort - Right on the west bank of the Ventura River, they have 144 sites with full hookups. The beach is across the freeway from the campground.
Less than a mile out of town

McGrath State Beach - has a good mixture of trees, grass, sand, and ocean. 174 tent/RV sites

Emma Wood State Beach - a little more sparse vegetation than McGrath, but better ocean views when the weather cooperates. 61 tent/RV sites.

Foster Park - a few miles up the Ventura River Valley, it's just woodsy enough to give you the full camping experience with the cool ocean air. 30 tent/RV sites and good picnic facilities.

Lake Casitas Recreation Area - 750 sites, 141 of them with electric and water hookups. Nearby fishing at the lake.

Wheeler Gorge - past the Ojai Valley at 2000 ft elevation, this small campground features oaks and chaparral around the cold waters of the gorge. 73 smaller tent/rv sites.
